Patterned Paper - backgrounds and paper piecing

Hello Crafty Friends! Oh what I'd give to have a spa day with my favorite gals! Until I'm able to do so, I'll just live vicariously through my stamped images! :P

Today's inspiration Friday is all about Patterned Paper! I absolutely love making patterned paper using La-La Land Crafts background stamps. You can make as much as you need and in any color you want!

I stamped out a pastel polka dot background using the Hello Lovely Background stamp. I trimmed out 0.5" strips and pieced them together to make the a striped pastel rainbow.  Then I used the leftover patterned paper to paper piece the towels and hat for the Spa Gals in the card. I used copics to add a little more depth and details to the towels and hat.

Hello everyone! It's Cheryl with the Inkon3 Creative Team here to show you a fun and quick card that mixes beautiful magnolia flowers with a masculine patterned paper!

First you'll need the following pieces prepped, feel free to adjust the colors and patterns to whatever you'd like or have available:
- A2 Card Base
- 5.5"x 4.25" Blue paper
- Black die-cut rectangle (I chose a scalloped rectangle die)
- Buffalo Plaid Patterned paper cut down to fit into black rectangle
- Black paper cut down to 2" high and whatever width is needed to fit into the rectangle
- 2"x 0.5" small black rectangle for sentiment
- White card stock that's 1.5" high and whatever width is needed to fit into the rectangle

On the white card stock, randomly stamp images from the Big Bold Magnolia stamp set using the Blackout Hybrid Detail Ink. Color with coloring medium of choice.

Then on the small 2"x 0.5 " black rectangle, stamp the sentiment "Have a Happy Birthday" from the BeYoutiful clear stamp set, using Juicy Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink, then sprinkle some Arctic White Ultra Fine embossing Powder and heat set!

Club La-La Land Crafts - August Kit - More Project Insp!

Hello Crafty Friends! I'm here to show a few more projects I've created using Club La-la land Craft's August 2020 kit! August 31, 2020 is the last day to subscribe to get the kit that I've used in the projects below, but if it's past August 31st, don't sweat it, you can purchase past kits with your 2nd subscription!

My first project is a weekly layout in my B6 Traveler's Notebook. I made a fun scene with the little kitty and puppy taking a nap after filling up on popcorn! I really loved how Cristena with the design team turned the popcorn and antenna components to make a floor lamp! I used partial die cutting to make the scalloped rectangle the right size for my planner.

Using the background stamps to create a pattern on the chairs so fun and easy!

Stenciling Fun in Planners -Beach themed layout

Happy Friday crafty friends! I created a beach themed planner layout in my A5 planner! I love using stencils in my planner to add fun decorative background without adding bulk to the planner. La-La Land Crafts have tons of fun stencils, and always comes in coordinated sets of 2!

I love how so many of the La-La Land Crafts dies can be used for functional components of my planner layout! ;) The cloud works so perfectly for the days of the week, and I will use the postage stamps to write in the highlights of the day! :)

Stenciling tips:

Build the colors
If you're new to stenciling using distress inks and a blending tool just remember that you have to keep building the color. There's going to be an initial phase where it doesn't look good, but once you keep blending and building the colors, it'll look good in the end!

Prep the paper
Paper does matter when using distress inks, most crafters like using Bristol paper when blending/stenciling in backgrounds however with planning you likely don't have a choice in paper (unless you print your own inserts, even then bristol is too thick for using it as a planner insert in my opinion). Because of the chalky finish of Distress Oxide inks, the inks almost prep the paper to allow for better blending of the inks! So go ahead and use your light distress oxide inks first, give it a moment to dry then use start blending the colors.

Shadowing/Ghosting
I haven't had any problems with shadowing with standard planner paper even when I use black distress oxide ink. However if you use a planner with super thin planner paper, like a hobonichi/tomoe river paper, then shadowing is inevitable.

For writing space
  • Stencil first, then write/stamp, especially if you're using distress oxide/pigment inks, since pigment inks sits on the paper surface if you stencil over your image/writing it'll dull your image/writing.
  • Keep the colors light if you want to write over the stenciled area.
  • If you want to stencil in dark colors, write with a white gel pen! The effect will look so nice!

Outdoor Pool Party Penguin Card

Happy Friday everyone! Today's card theme is "Outdoors"! I chose poolside as my outdoor as that is my kind of outdoor activity!

This is my first attempt at drawing pool water! I'm pretty happy with the results! Even though my card is summer themed, the Spring has Sprung paper pack had some nice blue-greens that went really nicely with the water that I had drew in.

Big Bold Magnolias and Water color Foil

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Cheryl with the Inkon 3 Creative Team here to share how I made this pretty card using Thermoweb and Inkon 3 products!

First, I cut out a 3.75”x5” rectangle using white cardstock. I placed the 6x6 Wavy Stencil over the cardstock and spread an even layer of the Deco Foil transfer gel over the stencil. I removed the stencil and set the white cardstock aside to dry completely.

Once dried, I heated up my laminator. Once ready, I cut one sheet of the Deco Foil Transfer sheets in Amethyst Watercolor that’s approximately 3.75” x 5”. I place the transfer sheet over the white cardstock, placed it in between printer paper and ran it through the laminator two times.

Next, I cut a 4”x5.25” rectangle and die cut a small pennant out of dark purple cardstock, and a 4.75”x 1.5” rectangle out of white cardstock. From the Big Bold Magnolia Stamp set, stamp out the magnolia flowers and two leaves shown in the picture above using Twiggy Brown Atelier Ink. Fussy cut the images, and then color with your choice of medium and colors.

On the small purple pennant, stamp the sentiments “Happy Birthday” from the Fox & Bunny Hugs Clear Stamp Set using the Juicy Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. Sprinkle some Arctic White Ultra Fine Embossing Powder over the stamped sentiment and shake off any excess, then heat set the embossing powder.

Now we’re ready to assemble the card! Adhere the purple rectangle onto an A2 card base, then adhere the foiled cardstock on the purple cardstock. Adhere the rest of the pieces as shown in the photo above, be very careful with the foil as it can scratch easily!

There you have it! The process for this card takes a while because of the transfer gel, but it is totally worth the time! And honestly, the picture doesn’t capture the full gorgeousness of the watercolor foil!
